Shoshone Falls

Shoshone Falls 4

Shoshone Falls on the Snake River,  also known as the “Niagara of the West”  is located approximately 5 miles east of  the city of Twin Falls, Idaho.  With its  212 feet height, this waterfall is 45 feet higher than Niagara Falls.

The best time to visit Shoshone Falls is during spring and early summer when the water is overflowing.  I and my husband visited this waterfall in early September, when the water flow was depleted.  But the view remained spectacular and breathtaking.

Namun pemandangannya masih tetap memukau.

Oregon Vortex: Optical Illussions or Paranormal Phenomena?

The Oregon Vortex

The Oregon Vortex’s Phenomena were discovered by John Lister between the year of 1930 to 1946.  The area was known to the Indian as “The Forbidden Ground”.  It was said that Indian horses would not pass the ground, no matter what.

I and my husband were accidently saw the road sign to this place on our way to Crater Lake and decided to check it out.   Though some believed that the phenomena were  merely  optical illussions, but our experience was real.

Ketoprak Ciragil

Ketoprak 1

Eid al-Fitri Dinner at Le Gran

Lontong (rice cake). opor ayam (Javanese chicken curry), dendeng balado (crispy sliced meat), sambal goreng ati (liver in spicy coconut milk), egg and chayote

Idul Fitri was not complete without  a dish of “Lontong and Opor Ayam” (rice cake and Javanese chicken curry). As long as I could remember, my mom and my sisters in Yogya always prepared this dish to celebrate the holiday.  Since my mom had passed away earlier this year, and I had travelled to Yogya so many times within the last three months,  I decided to celebrate the holiday in Jakarta.  Without forsaking Lontong and Opor, of course.

After calling several hotels and asking them if they had lontong and opor ayam in their restaurants’ menu, finally I, Maga, Junior,  Meina, and Widya went to Hotel Gran Mahakam’s coffee shop, known as Le Gran.  The Lontong Mahakam that we had, although it was different from what we normally had in our big family’s home in Yogya, was excellent.  In addition, we also had a chance to taste other dishes too, such as seafood steamboat, sushi, prata and curry and the delicious melted chocolate cake.  I would like also to mention here, that the waitress who served us was really helpful.  Seldom we met such a dedicated buffet restaurant attendant who would go a long way to offer you a dish and get it for you.  Good Job.

Jun Njan: Always Remember The Roots

To break the last day of fasting, I, Maga, Junior, Meina & Widya went to Jun Njan Seafood Restaurant at Gandaria City.  The place was rather packed with families missing their maids who had gone home to their villages for “Lebaran”.  In spite of the long wait for the food to be served, and the absent of garnishes, the food remained delicious as usual.  The oyster sauced crab was still the best.  So was the hot and salted fried squit.  The third generation who managed several Jun Njan restaurants seemed doing very well in maintaining the old recipes and family’s value of  Always Remember the Roots.

Las Vegas, The Glittering Sin City On The Desert

Let me  list the reasons why I like visiting this city on the desert, even though you will not find gambling and drinking  in it since my son was still considered under age for such activities.

First of all, I like the buildings and their decoration on the Strip (it is the main street of Las Vegas).  Some  think that those building are tacky, but regardless what the think, I like them all the same.  Here some of the buildings.

The Aria Resort & Casino

The Dancing Fountain @ Bellagio

The Lobby of The Venetian

Paris Las Vegas

Second, the food.

The wonderful taste of beautifully presented food at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant

The Entertainment.  From musicals such as Phantom of the Opera (the shorter version than the one played in Broadway, New York), to magical show of David Copperfield.  Cirque du Soleil many performances: Elvis Presley, Viva Las Vegas @ The Aria, Beatles’ Love @ The Mirage.  Live Shows such as Donny & Marie @ Flamingo, Barry Manilow @ Paris Las Vegas, Jerry Seinfeld and Bette Middler @ Caesars Palace.  The list can go on and on and on.

The glitters of the night

Caesars Palace at night

The Shopping

Venetian Grand Canal Shopping Center

The luxury of the Hotel we stayed … it was the Vidara

The Grill: Never Fail

The Grill had been one of our favorite restaurants for several years.  Since its location only two minutes walk from our office, it had been the venue for many  celebrations, such as friends birthdays, our team’s special achievements or accomplishment, and reunions.  Sometimes, it was just a place to eat a really good food.  The food never failed us.  If it wasn’t a bit pricey, maybe I would have gone there every week.

Talaga Sampireun: A Culinary Experience By The Lake
